Where forever began...
Sarah and Garrett met through a mutual friend, Kerri Davis. She was Sarah’s freshman roommate at Wingate University and Garrett knew Kerri through middle school. Garrett had invited Kerri over to his apartment at Guilford College for a party and thought she would take Sarah along. As the night went along, Sarah and Garrett found each other in a separate room from everyone else, sat down, and talked the whole night.
"We laughed and got to know one another. It was love at first sight."
Garrett knew that he was in love with Sarah that first night they met. They stayed in touch by talking on the phone and texting, even though Sarah was at Wingate University and Garrett was at Guilford College. Sarah was wanting a change so she moved back home to go to UNCG. Once Sarah moved home, they started going on dates frequently. Sarah felt like she could be herself around him and appreciated that he made her laugh a lot.
Friday, June, 24, 2011...
Garrett had asked Sarah’s family to come over to his parents house for a “going away party” since he was leaving the next week for the Virginia State Police Academy. Sarah thought it would be a great idea since their parents had not met yet either. Garrett had gone to Sarah’s dad the week before for approval and Sarah's hand in marriage. Sarah had no idea that this was all going on.
After everyone had finished eating, Garrett’s mom got up and said “I would like to thank you all for coming. We are going to miss Garrett as he leaves for the Academy." She began to cry.
Garrett then got up after her and thanked everyone again for all the support. As he had tears in his eyes, he turned to Sarah and said…”Sarah I would like to do one thing before I leave…” He got down on one knee and right then Sarah began to cry tears of joy.
“Will you marry me?”
Sarah could barely get out “yes” because she was so happy.
Meanwhile, Kacie, Garrett’s sister, was in the corner of the room videotaping everything without Sarah knowing.
This is where their forever began.
Sarah loves that Garrett can make her laugh at any time, even if she is upset. One thing Garrett loves to do to make Sarah laugh is dance at any given point of time.
"We can be in a store and if he likes a song, he will dance."
Garrett and Sarah looked forward to walking down the aisle and seeing each other.
When asked one thing Sarah and Garret wished they would have known earlier in regards to planning for their wedding, they answered it was best "to really take your time and research all the possibilities of what is out there to choose from."
